«La Poesia è Scienza, la Scienza è Poesia»

«Beauty is truth. truth beauty,- that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.» (John Keats)

«Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.» (Martin Luther King)

«A good poem is a contribution to reality. The world is never the same once a good poem has been added to it. A good poem helps to change the shape of the universe, helps to extend everyone's knowledge of himself and the world around him.» (Dylan Thomas)

"Trees" di Howard Nemerov

Amiche dilette, amici,

M.P.

Trees

To be a giant and keep quiet about it,
To stay in one's own place;
To stand for the constant presence of process
And always to seem the same;
To be steady as a rock and always trembling,
Having the hard appearance of death
With the soft, fluent nature of growth,
One's Being deceptively armored,
One's Becoming deceptively vulnerable;
To be so tough, and take the light so well,
Freely providing forbidden knowledge
Of so many things about heaven and earth
For which we should otherwise have no word —

Poems or people are rarely so lovely,
And even when they have great qualities
They tend to tell you rather than exemplify
What they believe themselves to be about,
While from the moving silence of trees,
Whether in storm or calm, in leaf and naked,
Night and day, we draw conclusions of our own,
Sustaining and unnoticed as our breath
And perilous also — though there has never been
A critical tree — about the nature of things.

Alberi

Essere un gigante, e non parlarne,
Rimanendo al posto che compete;
Significare la presenza costante del processo
E apparire sempre lo stesso;
Armata, l'altra vulnerabile, ingannevolmente;
Non ci sarebbero state parole altrimenti —

Tendono piuttosto a dire che a dare esempio
Su cosa pensano essere la loro missione,
Mentre dal silente movimento degli alberi,
Che fossero in quiete o in tempesta,
Rigogliosi o spogli, giorno o nottetempo,
